Running Boards & Side Steps in Ajax
Running boards make a lifted truck or tall SUV usable for everyone in the family, and they shield the rocker panels from stone chips and salt spray. Ajax drivers mostly run family SUVs, minivans and trucks, which shapes what makes sense here.

Driving conditions in Ajax
Exposed lakefront wind and slushy 401 commutes make wet and slush evacuation the priority. Add road salt and freeze-thaw potholes on Highway 401, Harwood Avenue and Kingston Road, and hardware choice matters as much as the headline spec.
- Fixed boards are cheapest and strongest; power-retracting boards tuck away for ground clearance.
- Off-road rock sliders bolt to the frame and take vehicle weight; decorative tubes do not.
- Finish matters on salted roads — powder-coated steel and textured aluminum hold up best.
- Check step width against your lift height so the step lands where it's actually useful.

Running Boards & Side Steps in Ajax: common questions
Do running boards fit a lifted truck?
Yes, but bracket choice matters. A lifted truck often needs drop brackets so the step still sits at a usable height.
Will they rust in Ontario winters?
Powder-coated steel and aluminum hold up well. Rinse road salt off through the winter and they'll last the life of the truck.
Do they affect ground clearance off-road?
Fixed boards hang lower than the rockers. If you wheel seriously, choose frame-mounted sliders or power boards.
