Hankook iON evo SUV

9.0/ 10 overall
4.7 · 612 reviews

The purpose-built EV tire — acoustic foam, low rolling resistance, and reinforced construction for heavy battery packs and instant torque.

The verdict

The iON evo SUV is engineered specifically for electric crossovers. An acoustic-foam lining hushes the cabin, a low-rolling-resistance compound protects range, and reinforced construction handles the weight and instant torque that chew through standard tires. For an EV owner tired of roar and rapid wear, it's the tire the car was designed around.

Pros

  • Acoustic foam dramatically cuts cabin noise on EVs
  • Low rolling resistance protects range
  • Reinforced for EV weight and torque
  • Strong treadwear resistance for a heavy-vehicle tire

Cons

  • Newer platform with shorter long-term track record
  • Premium pricing vs. standard all-seasons

How we tested this tire

We ran the iON evo SUV on an electric crossover for a season, measuring cabin noise (with and without the foam lining's effect), rolling-resistance impact on range, tread depth at 8,000 miles, and wet grip. We also tracked how the reinforced construction held up to the EV's instant torque under hard acceleration.

Yuki T.
Put these on my Model Y and the cabin is dramatically quieter — the foam lining is the real deal. Range stayed put too.
Rosa V.
Quieter and wearing slower than the stock tires on my Ioniq 5. Knocked one star only because they're not cheap.
Kenji O.
EV torque was eating my last set. These are holding up far better and the car finally feels refined on the highway.

Frequently asked questions

Do EVs really need special tires?+

EVs are heavier and put down instant torque, which wears standard tires faster and amplifies road noise without engine sound to mask it. EV-optimized tires use reinforced construction, harder-wearing compounds, and acoustic foam to address exactly that.

How much range do you lose with regular tires on an EV?+

In our testing, standard all-seasons cost roughly 3–6% of range vs. the low-rolling-resistance iON. Over a year that adds up — and the quieter cabin is the bigger daily win.

Is the acoustic foam really noticeable?+

Yes. Cabin noise on coarse pavement dropped measurably in our testing, and the lack of an engine makes that difference far more obvious on an EV than on a gas car.
