Westlake SU318 H/T review

Westlake · Highway Terrain SUV/Truck · All-season (M+S)

Cheap highway rubber for a work truck or second vehicle. Keep speeds sensible in the rain and it does the job.

The verdict

Westlake (ZC Rubber) is one of the largest Chinese manufacturers and the SU318 is its highway-terrain staple. Dry performance and noise are better than the price suggests; wet braking and hydroplaning resistance are the weak points that show up in owner reports and independent tests. For a low-mileage truck or a trailer-adjacent second vehicle it makes financial sense.

Pros

  • +Very low cost per tire in truck sizes
  • +Quieter than most cheap H/T patterns
  • +Widely available in LT sizes

Cons

  • −Wet traction is a documented weak point
  • −Shorter real-world tread life than the warranty implies
  • −Uneven wear if rotation is skipped

Fitment and best use

SUVs and light trucks, 15–20 in.. Best for work trucks and low-mileage second vehicles.

About Westlake

One of the world's largest manufacturers by volume, sold heavily in truck and SUV sizes. Manufactured by ZC Rubber (China). Typically ~50–60% less than premium equivalents.

Watch out: Wet traction is a consistently reported weakness.
